Biography

Mei Li, CFA, had more than a decade of working experience at Wall Street in the US and Hong Kong. She was also an Adjunct Faculty at New York University and a Guest Lecturer of artificial intelligence finance at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business. She worked at Citigroup Global Markets Hong Kong, ZS Associates, FTN Financial and AIG etc in the US, providing global macro strategy and fixed income research for AIG’s $360bn AUM. She also serves as an advisor for several US cross-border M&A advisory firms, PE/VC funds and wealth management companies. She has been frequently interviewed and widely quoted on major media including BBC, Agence France Presse, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Xinhua News Agency, Sina Finance and People’s Daily, Ebru News TV etc. She has been invited to be a Key Opinion Leader at Sina Finance since 2012 and a Columnist at PE Daily.

Mei was the first Asian to conduct an exclusive one-on-one interview with 2008 Nobel Laureate in Economics Prof. Paul Krugman and got his recommendation as his student. During her PhD study, she served as a Research Assistant at the Stone Center on Socio-Economic Inequality (faculty including Prof. Paul Krugman, 2008 Nobel Laureate in Economics; Prof. Branko Milanovic, former Lead Economist at the World Bank etc.) on a wealth transfer tax project funded by $1.66 million from the US National Science Fund.

Besides teaching and researching, she also provides services by mentoring students in several global and national business contests such as HKICPA and CGMA etc., guiding students to win National Champion, 1st Runner-up and other prizes, and offering students with career and life advice when consulted by students.

Mei graduated from Sun Sat-Sen University with a Bachelor in Finance (highest distinction), got her Master of Financial Engineering from University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and her PhD in Economics from the City university of New York. She was also an exchange student majoring in Quantitative Finance at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. She was a recipient of National Excellent Student Scholarship and the sole recipient of SYSU Excellent Graduation Thesis Award in the finance major. Her research fields are corporate finance, corporate governance, taxation and public policy, and financial engineering/artificial intelligence finance.

In her spare time, Mei likes to play the piano and sing at the same time and compose songs in various styles. She participated in a performance at Lincoln Center in New York before. She also serves several non-profit organizations such as an Education Committee Member at Long Island Chinese American Association, and the Finance Minister of Greater New York Area Peking University Alumni Golf Club.
