Biography

Dr. GONG Wengao graduated from Yangtze University in 1985. After that, he received his Postgraduate Diploma in English Language & Literature from East China Normal University in 1990 and his Postgraduate Diploma in English Language Teaching from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 1993. Later, he obtained his Master of Arts (by research) and Doctor of Philosophy both from National University of Singapore.

 

Over the past thirty over years, Dr. Gong has worked in several institutions of higher education both in China and in Singapore in his capacity as a teacher, an administrator, and a researcher. He joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen in 2015. He is currently Associate Dean (Common Core) and Director of the Language and Communication Division, the School of Humanities and Social Science.

 

Dr. Gong has published in areas such as language and communication on social media, corpus linguistics, lexicography, second language acquisition, and English-Chinese biliteracy learning.

Dr. Gong's research interests include: Langugage on social media; language and identity representation on social media; corpus linguistics; and second language acquisition.
