This course is designed as an introduction and a road map for the Urban Studies program. This course discusses the importance of cities to economic, environmental, cultural, and political well-being of modern societies and examines how forces such as industrialization, decentralization, urbanization and suburbanization affect structure and function of cities.
HSS1006
This course is a gateway to understand the fundamentals of sociology for first year students in School of Humanities and Social Science. Our goal is to provide students with a foundational understanding of sociology and how sociologists approach various issues. The class will introduce essential sociological perspectives and methods used in empirical studies. Through relatable examples, students will see how these perspectives are applied to real-life topics like gender, family, culture, education, work, and globalization.
