Biography

Dr. Lu Wang obtained his Bachelor and Master degree from the University of Sheffield in 2011. He then obtained the Ph.D. degree from Nanyang Technological University in the Division of Chemistry and Biological Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Martin Pumera in 2016. From 2016 to 2020, he joined Prof. Geoffrey Ozin’s research group for postdoc training at the University of Toronto. In 2020, Dr. Wang officially joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. Dr. Wang has published more than 70 papers in highly regarded journals, including Joule, Nat. Commun., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., ACS Nano, ACS Catalysis, Chem Catalysis, etc..

Research
  • Photothermal catalysis

  • Photothermal catalysis is a newly proposed catalytic technology that integrates electromagnetic and thermal energy. Unlike the traditional photocatalytic process, the photothermal catalytic process could be conducted on a solid-gas interface with improved overall catalytic performance. Our group focuses on the development of efficient photothermal catalysts as well as the study of reaction mechanisms with various in situ characterization techniques.

  • Thermal radiative catalysis

  • Thermal radiative catalysis is a new catalytic technology proposed by our group. Such a catalytic concept naturally integrates electromagnetic energy (thermal radiation) and thermal energy. The idea can be applied to either homogeneous catalysis or heterogeneous catalysis with appropriate reaction conditions and choice of catalysts. It has the potential to change the current infrastructure of high-temperature thermal processes with the introduction of thermal radiation and thus promote the products' selectivity, yield, and stability.
