Biography

Dr. Hou received a five-year full scholarship while pursuing his Ph.D in English and M.S. in Computer Graphics at Purdue University. In return, he taught freshman English Composition and Academic Writing as a graduate instructor. He continued to teach there after graduation, and won the Quintilian Award for Excellence as an Instructor in the Introductory Composition at Purdue Program in 2006. He then worked as an assistant professor at Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates. He is teaching English at CUHKSZ.

As an experienced conference interpreter, he did Chinese<>English simultaneous interpretation for many national leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, former US President Bill Clinton, Vice President Albert Gore, former British PM Tony Blair, etc. Clients include the United Nations, Department of Tourism & Marketing Authority of Dubai, EXPO 2020 Committee, World Retail Congress, UAE Ministry of Economic Development, the Joint E-MBA Program by University of North Carolina & TsingHua University, Hermes, Fendi, L’OREAL, HSBC, Bvlgari, Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Abacus, Shell, Kaspersky, FM Approvals,  Autodesk, Ayava, AVEVA, Novartis, Johnson & Johnson, Bureau of International Recycling, National Bureau of Energy of China, UAE Khalifa Port & Industrial Zone Authority, etc.

As an art lover, Dr. Hou is an experienced figure drawer and landscape painter in both traditional and digital medium. He is also a choir singer and vocalist.

    My research interests are in the area of translation, visuals & second language acquisition (reading & writing), and simultaneous interpretation.
