In building bridges across disciplines and creating spaces for dialogue and radical interdependence that address experiences of isolation, loneliness and despair, I established together with students the 'Imagining Otherwise/新好地' hub. It draws inspiration from Lola Olufemi and the traditions of critical pedagogy, community psychology and possibility studies.
The cross-disciplinary hub serves as a space where students, scholars and communities come together to explore and experiment visions and practices that promote human flourishing centered around hope, care, solidarity, social harmony and equity. We experiment with participatory pedagogies, multisensory and creative methodologies to create opportunities to imagine alternative ways of knowing, understanding, feeling and relating to human and more than human worlds as well as enact these possibilities.
In 2023, our first ‘experiment’ resulted in ‘The Black Box’ space in collaboration with the University’s Art Centre and colleagues from General education. The project aimed through individual and collective storytelling and sensory methods to empower students to a) imagine otherwise about success and b) create a collective space of care, hope and solidarity.
We work together with different scholars, networks and communities from different parts of the world e.g. Possibility Studies Network https://www.possibilitystudies.net/
‘Imagining Otherwise’ is a piecemeal experimental, creative and collective process.
Looking forward to welcoming you!
