Biography

Tin Lun Lam, Senior Member of IEEE, serves as Assistant Professor and Executive Deputy Director of Robotics & AI Lab of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Director of Research Center on Intelligent Robots of Shenzhen Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Society. He received his B.Eng. Degree with First Class Honors and Ph.D. Degree in Robotics and Automation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2006 and 2010, respectively. Prof. Lam’s research group is devoted to developing new types of general robotic technologies to give impetus to the application of the technologies in new fields, and popularizing the knowledge of robotics and AI to the society. The research focus includes field robotics, soft robotics, modular robot, multi-robot systems, and human-robot interaction. He has extensive experience in the development of robotic and automation systems, such as modular self-reconfigurable robot, telepresence robot, autonomous ground vehicle, unmanned sea surface vehicle, tree-climbing robot, four-wheel independent steering and driving vehicle, industrial 6-axis robotic arm system, patrol robot, rescue robot, home service robot, and educational robot. Based on his research, he has been granted over 50 patents, published 2 monographs, 6 international journal papers, over 30 international conference papers in top tier international journals and conference proceedings in robotics and automation such as TRO, JFR, T-MECH, ICRA, and IROS. One of the journal papers was received an IEEE/ASME T-MECH Best Paper Award in 2011. His research outcomes also featured in numerous popular media outlets including ReutersDiscovery Channel, and IEEE Spectrum.
